VRML Information

Some Basic Information

What is VRML?

The interactive content on this site is created using VRML. So what the heck is VRML? VRML, or Virtual Reality Modeling Language, it is a standardized means of describing interactive, web-based, 3D content. VRML became an ISO standard in 1997 and features many exciting capabilities for web site designers. However before you can view this content, you will most like need to install a VRML browser plugin. So here on this page we'll try to provide you the information you may need in order to view the interactive content on our site.

Microsoft Windows

For Microsoft Windows visitors we recommend the Cortona VRML Client available from ParallelGraphics. The Cortona plugin works with both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla-based browsers (Netscape, Firefox, etc). For more information about Cortona, please visit the ParallelGraphics site.

Some other popular VRML browser plugins for the Windows platform are blaxxun Contact and Bitmanagement Software's BS Contact VRML/X3D. We have tested these browser plugins and have found some distracting graphics and scripting artifacts that prevent us from recommending these plugins for use with this site.

Macintosh Users

For Macintosh visitors the Cortona VRML Client for Mac OS X is available from ParallelGraphics. We have noticed some display artifacts when using the Cortona plugin with Safari. So we recommend using Firefox instead when viewing this site.

Linux and Other Systems

For Linux users there are many open-source VRML browsers available. We have not tested any of these browsers so we cannot give a recommendation as to with one to use. Visitors to our site have recommended OpenVRML, Orbisnap, and FreeWRL. If you are using another VRML browser and would like to recommend it to us, please contact us via our feedback page.

Download the Cortona3D Viewer from ParallelGraphics to view the interactive content on this site.
